Research interests

Our work is centered around ion channels, in particular TRPM1 and TRPM3, belonging to the large superfamily of TRP ion channels. These channels play important roles in several sensory processes of such as nociception, thermoreception and vision. Accordingly, they are implicated in pathophysiological conditions such as (chronic) pain and night blindness. We study the biophysical, pharmacological and, most importantly, physiological properties with a variety of electrophysiological techniques, and modern imaging and protein biochemical techniques.
