Research interests

The function of sensory systems, from development to behaviour. As model systems invertebrate sensory systems, mainly the auditory system of insects are investigated with neurophysiological, behavioral and molecular methods in the laboratory and in the field:
Development of sensory neurons, including axonal pathfinding in embryonic nervous system;
Regeneration of neurons and axonal regeneration, including establishing new synaptic connections;
Transduction processes in mechanosensory sensilla;
Functional properties of the insect ear, especially for acoustic orientation;
Behavior and communication in an evolutionary context;
Anthropogenic effects on acoustic communication of insects.
