Research interests

My research is focused on the sensorimotor basis of adaptive behavior of the active, moving human body from two complimentary perspectives. Based on the theory of internal models as common conceptual framework for perception and action, I seek to understand the behavioral, cognitive, and neural principles of sensorimotor learning in the context of stability and adaptability on the one hand, and, on the other hand, investigate the role of individual action capabilities for neurocognitive mechanisms of perceiving and representing our environment. In the long run, my research aims to develop a model of sensorimotor adaptation and learning across the lifespan, and to further our understanding of how higher cognitive functions such as categorization and language comprehension depend on apparently simple sensory and motor processes.
