Research interests

Our group investigates communication pathways between immune system and nervous system. These studies are performed in vivo employing distinct animal models and invitro using neuro-glial primary cultures from the peripheral (dorsal root ganglia) or central (substantia gelatinosa, circumventricular organs, hypothalamic nuclei) nervous system. Special focus is directed to the question, how systemic or localized inflammation evoke brain-controlled illness responses such as fever, anorexia or sickness behaviour.
